The knowledge and/or performance of techniques are constantly changing or escalating to meet the demands of the society we live in. At BJ’s, we have been and will continue to meet these obligations at their highest level.
PROFESSIONAL ETHICS: Deals with the proper conduct of the student in relations to the employer, clients, and co-worker.
HYGIENE AND GOOD GROOMING: Hygiene refers to both the public and the individual as to cleanliness and healthful living habits. Good grooming refers to the student in all aspects as to the individual’s appearance.
VISUAL POISE: The growing of one’s self into an ideal pattern that benefits him/her self and society.
SCALP AND HAIR TREATMENTS: Preserves the health and beauty of the scalp and hair.
MANICURING: To cleanse and improve the appearance of hands and nails.
HAIR CUTTING/SHAPING: The foundation of all hair styling, performed with styling shears, razor, or clippers.
FINGERWAVING: The art of shaping hair into a wave pattern with the aid of the fingers, comb and wave set.
HAIRSTYLING: The ability to create, with the hair, a frame for the head and face that will compliment a person’s complete look.
CARE & STYLING OF WIGS & ARTIFICIAL HAIR: Care and knowledge of cleaning, shaping, and styling artificial hair/wigs to compliment the clients total appearance.
PERMANENT WAVING: Care and knowledge of curling the hair permanently with the aid of chemicals.
CHEMICAL HAIR RELAXING: The relaxing or removing of curl in the hair with the aid of chemicals.
SHAVING, BEARD & MUSTACHE TRIMMING: Removing or shaping the hair of the face.
FACIAL TREATMENTS: The processes employed to enhance the beauty and health of the skin of the face.
EYEBROW ARCHING: Shaping of eyebrows in such a manner as to properly outline the eyes.
HAIR COLORING: The science and art of changing the color of hair by artificial means with the aid of chemicals.
HAIR BLEACHING: Partial or total removal of pigmented color from the hair by means of chemicals.
SUPERFLUOUS HAIR REMOVAL: Temporary methods employed by tweezing, waxing, or with chemicals. Permanent method (electrolysis) is taught in theory only.
BACTERIOLOGY, STERILIZATION, SANITATION, & DECONTAMINATION: Knowledge and implementing of measures taken to promote and protect good health against harmful germs.
SKIN & SCALP: The study of these areas and their structure enables us to treat them effectively, give advice and further enhance their beauty with future treatments to keep them healthy.
THE NAIL: The study of the nail as to growth and structure.
DISORDERS AND DISEASES OF THE SKIN, SCALP, HAIR & NAILS: Recognition by examination and treatment of these conditions as they exit.
THE HAIR: One of the most important aspects of our profession as it concerns the adornment of the individual as to his/her appearance and its relation to the styling and continued healthy growth that we can perform and promote.
ELECTRICITY & LIGHT THERAPY: The benefits, effects and safety factors of electricity as applied to Cosmetology, Barbering, & Teacher Trainee Training.
CHEMISTRY: A basic understanding of the chemicals used in our profession.
SALON MANAGEMENT: Key factors employed for the successful management or ownership of a salon by day to day operation, growth and future opportunities and the background studies needed to achieve these goals. State Licensing requirements, employment & payroll deductions are included in Salon Management.
STATE LAWS: The law relating to Cosmetologist, Barbers, Manicurists, Estheticians, and Teacher Trainees in the State of Washington.
FIRST AID: The basics of first aid and how it is applied to our industry.
